Turkey Creek Long Rifles
Turkey Creek Longrifles
Turkey Creek Longrifles is made up of a band of like minded individuals who have participated in a loosely organized shooting club dedicated to the Second Amendment in our Bill of Rights and a collective interest in understanding the firearms, customs, skills and living conditions of the hardy and spirited inhabitants of our Country in the early days, pre 1840.
Turkey Creek Longrifles started approximately 1970 …some members of the Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club who were interested in muzzle loading gathered to hold a shooting match at our new range in Hanover, Virginia (the Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club had already been in existence in Henrico County, Virginia and had to find a new settlement due to urban encroachment).
The Turkey Creek Longrifles have continually held shooting matches both organized and, in recent years, more informally, but still fun. In the mid ‘70’s most of us traveled around Virginia for other matches and sponsored an annual Rifle Frolic at our home club in Hanover County.
We are still meeting the second Sunday of each month. Individuals interested in shooting traditional style rifles, pistols and smoothbores predating the 1840’s are welcome to attend any of our meetings the second Sunday of each month on range number 2 and start activities around 9:00am. We encourage shooting with patched round ball firearms with traditional types of open, iron sites using black powder and flintlock or percussion ignition. Come join us.
