CAVRP MULTI-GUN MATCH
When: see Schedule page for match dates
Where: Range 5
Match Director: Joe Fallis - binazone@verizon.net
General information and description of the match
In a “multi-gun” match, a rifle, pistol and shotgun are used in various combinations on a given stage. The course of fire (COF) for a stage typically requires that the competitor use two or more weapons and transitions from one (hot) weapon to another to complete the stage (e.g., from a rifle to a pistol). A given stage may involve engaging targets from contact distance to 500 yards. Most stages in a multi-gun match involve movement, weapon transitions and target engagement from multiple and, sometimes, awkward shooting positions (e.g., under a low port). In addition, most stages are time-limited (e.g., a maximum of 180 seconds to complete the COF).
If you’re interested by now, you will need the following to safely compete:
Competitive shooting experience (IDPA, IPSC, etc.). Safe firearm handling is the most important thing you must bring to the match.
Fully-functional firearms (safeties function as the manufacturer intended; types described below).
An OWB holster with solid retention. No IWB, cross-draw or shoulder holsters allowed. If you compete in IDPA, for instance, than you already have what you need in this regard.
A semi-automatic rifle with sling (max caliber 7.62 x 51) and a minimum of three magazines and pouches to securely hold them. Rifles may be iron-sighted, scoped or both.
A pump or semi-automatic shotgun with sling (20 gauge - 12 gauge) and pouches or magazines to hold necessary shot shells. Shotguns may have optical sights.
A semi-automatic, iron-sighted pistol (minimum caliber 9x19) with at least three magazines and pouches to securely hold them.
Some competitors use tactical vests or police/military-type duty rigs (drop leg / thigh rigs) to carry and secure their equipment and firearms. As long as the equipment used meets the (pistol) retention requirements as noted above it can be used.

This is a COLD RANGE match. No loaded weapons / magazines inserted behind the firing line. Pistols are holstered with hammer / striker down.
Only lead-core ammunition may be used. No AP, incendiary or tracer ammunition allowed. All rifle rounds to be used should be magnet-checked before you arrive. If it sticks to the magnet, don’t bring it. Rounds will be re-checked before the match starts.
Shot shell / slugs will be lead only.
An (empty) chamber flag must be inserted in the long guns when not in use.
Long guns, unless bagged or carried in a cart, must be slung muzzle down with chamber flag inserted.
Divisions: (for scoring purposes)
Tactical Irons (TI): iron-sighted rifle and shotgun.
Tactical Optics (TO): scope or optical sight on rifle, iron-sighted shotgun.
HEMAN: iron-sighted battle rifle (.30 cal), single-stack pistol and pump shotgun.
Tactical HEMAN (THEMAN): HEMAN, but battle rifle is scoped.
OPEN: Optics on shotgun or scope and optics on rifle.
Scoring :
Scoring will be based on the stage raw time plus any penalties as detailed in the stage description. All times are recorded as seconds.
Competitors will compete against others in their division, but there will be an overall match winner – the guy/gal with the lowest overall time.
Competitors in THEMAN / HEMAN will only fire half the number of rifle rounds required to neutralize a target than those in TI /TO / OPEN. For example, a paper target requires two hits to neutralize for TI /TO/ OPEN, but only one for THEMAN / HEMAN. All other scoring round counts (pistol and shotgun) are the same regardless of division.
A detailed COF will be given at each stage by the Range Officer.
